The Catholic Movie Review classifies films based on their conformity to sound Christian faith-community values with the aim of ensuring that watching the film could confirm and/or encourage such values instead of harming them. Our evaluation will not center on historical accuracy of the facts used therein as we follow the assumption that movies are works of fiction unless it claim historical truth. Only then we evaluate for historical accuracy.
CP Catholic Patronage | Films that fall into this classification contain and show elements that encourage and/or confirm Christian faith-community values with no instance of certain contrary values being found and given importance or emphasis.
MG Mature Guidance | These films are not recommended for Catholics who are not yet mature in their faith, or at least well informed enough to maturely make correct judgments on certain value propositions made in the film that could be detrimental to the soul. The film may be watched together with a mature Catholic–parents maybe or a religious teacher or members of the clergy–who can discuss along the way the dangers of certain values proposed and provide the correct ones based on the Christian traditions and teachings.
MC Mature Catholics | These films may only be watched by those who have strong spiritual state, advanced training into the teachings of the Catholic Church, and long personal experience with the Lord. Such Catholics may include the clergy, religious, lay leaders, and lay with live relationship with God.
IF Idle Film | These films have nothing to be desired, except for pure entertainment value and despite excellent actor performance, but are simply wasters of valuable time to watch.
